USD Sentiment Stabilizes Amid HK Equity Losses

FOREX

The USD has stabilized somewhat in recent dealings. A weaker tone to some parts of Asian equities, particularly in Hong Kong, amid earning concerns, is likely helping sentiment stabilize at the margin (the HSI is off 1.55% in latest dealings). USD/CNH is comfortably above earlier lows, last at 7.1250 (earlier lows were at 7.1126).

  • The BBDXY was last 1229.80, earlier lows were at 1228.70. US Tsy futures have also moved off session highs, albeit at the margin (last 109.25+).
  • USD/JPY is creeping higher, back to 146.95, (earlier lows at 146.67). BoJ Board Member Adachi has reiterated recent rhetoric that it is too early to be debating an exit from easy policy settings.
  • NZD/USD is off earlier highs, but still outperforming, last at 0.6195. RBNZ Governor Orr not walking back anything from today's earlier statement at the press conference. Inflation is still high and risks to the outlook are skewed higher.
  • AUD/USD was last under 0.6660, still lagging broader USD weakness.
