USDCAD Bullish Conditions Firm Despite CAD Outperformance

CANADA
  • USDCAD has steadily increased +0.3% this morning to 1.2990, with CAD outperforming other high beta majors partly from the recent re-widening in Can-US front end yield differentials (holding in today at +18bps).
  • The pair is just off a session high of 1.2992 and has cleared key near-term resistance at 1.2985 (Aug 5 high), strengthening bullish technical conditions with attention on the 1.30+ levels of mid-July, starting with 1.3012 (Jul 18 high).
  • The move higher is helped by WTI unwinding yesterday’s gains but negative correlation on a rolling 20-day basis is the lowest in absolute terms since late June, limiting the impact.
