USDCAD Consolidates Push Closer To Bull Trigger

CANADA
  • USDCAD has pulled back off highs of 1.3741 but at 1.372 still consolidates yesterday’s shunt higher on broad USD strength.
  • CAD sits mid-pack for G10 FX on the day but outperforms high beta peers despite crude futures being under pressure, with WTI off lows but still down -0.8%. It's helped at the margin by GoCs underperforming an already sizeable bear steepening in Treasuries.
  • Resistance is seen at the bull trigger of 1.3786 (Oct 5 high), after which lies 1.3805 (Mar 24 high), whilst support is seen at 1.3569 (Oct 10 low) seen ahead of US CPI.
  • Cumulative option expiry around the mid-1.36s for today’s NY cut: 1.3650 (602m), 1.3680 (313m), 1.3640 (237m).
