USDCAD Dragged Higher Despite Expectations Of 75bp BoC Hike

CANADA
  • USDCAD has cranked higher in a succession of steps today, currently 0.64% at 1.3029, as it moves towards Friday’s high of 1.3035 from the initial reaction to payrolls before more than losing its gains at the time.
  • Broad expectation for a 75bp hike from the BoC on Wed is likely behind CAD outperforming other high beta majors, and has helped maintain speculative CFTC net longs, hovering at +3% vs -32% for AUD and -16% for NZD as of last Tuesday.
  • Resistance is eyed at 1.3084 (Jul 5 high), clearance of which could open the Nov 23, 2020 high of 1.3113.
