USDCAD Keeps To Particularly Narrow Range Before US CPI

CANADA
  • USDCAD has seen a lacklustre day today, at ~1.338 edging slightly lower on the day in ranges that aside from Jan 1 equal the joint narrowest in 2023.
  • The day’s limited moves have come about from competing drivers: the S&P e-mini sees solid 0.4% gains and there’s a 2bp narrowing in negative Can-US yield differentials, but WTI is under renewed pressure at -1.3%.
  • Tomorrow of course sees US CPI, with no meaningful option expiry at nearby strikes at the subsequent NY cut.
  • Initial resistance is seen at yesterday’s high of 1.3415 before a firmer 1.3463 (50-day EMA), whilst support is seen at 1.3229 Jan 2 low).
