USDCAD Retraces Half Of US CPI Surge

CANADA
  • USDCAD moves below the 1.39 mark it had tentatively sat at after the dust had settled on the US CPI, having surged through key resistance at 1.3838 (Sep 30 high).
  • At 1.3864 but with a high of 1.3977, it reinforces the technical uptrend for the pair, with next resistance at 1.40 and then 1.4040 (76.4% retrace of 2020-21 bear cycle).
  • BoC’s Macklem is now set to speak tomorrow at the IMF after hawkish remarks Oct 6, following a busy US session with retail sales, import prices and U.Mich. However, one eye from an idiosyncratic rate differential perspective will be on next week’s key business & consumer surveys (Oct 17, Senior DG Rogers also speaks) and CPI (Oct 19) prior to the BoC decision on Oct 26.
