USDCAD Steps Higher To Test New Resistance With Few Clear Drivers

CANADA
  • USDCAD has seen a push higher in recent trade to 1.3523. It’s hard to pinpoint a particular driver for this break higher, perhaps WTI coming under renewed pressure to shift back towards session lows but still just about within yesterday’s range.
  • Elsewhere, GoC underperformance to Tsys has been trimmed somewhat but Can-US 2YY differentials still trade 9bps tighter since Monday’s close pre-CAD CPI, whilst the S&P e-mini has pared post-open gains but remains off earlier lows.
  • The pair builds on earlier clearance of resistance at 1.3502 (Aug 8 high) and most now tests 1.3523 (76.4% retrace of May 26-Jul 14 downleg) after which lies 1.3585 (Jun 1 high).
