Uzbekistan Plans To Import Gas, Power Under Commercial Contracts

Uzbekistan plans to import gas and power from neighbouring countries under commercial contracts and not through any alliance or gas union as previously suggested by Russia, the country's Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov said.

  • "In order to meet the demand, to cover internal consumption and solve the problem, we are now holding talks to import gas and electrical power from the neighbouring countries, not through some alliance or union," Mirzamakhmudov said.
  • In November, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan were discussing a gas union for internal supplies and supplies to other markets.
  • Uzbekistan is now holding talks on the purchase of energy resources based on internal needs under commercial contracts.
  • Uzbekistan has been experiencing gas and power shortages in recent weeks. The surge in gas demand has led to a significant decline of Uzbekistan’s gas exports.
