Valero Memphis Inspects Units Following Power Loss

Valero’s Memphis Tennessee refinery is inspecting process units and piping after a trip by an electrical supplier late July7 25, according to Bloomberg.

  • The power loss shut down most of the refinery, with resultant flaring and black smoke
  • Restarts after abrupt shutdowns can be complicated as units require cleaning and inspection before a reheating or re-introducing fluid.
  • Memphis processes light sweet crudes to make products in the local area, with a processing capacity of around 180k b/d.
