Vietnam May Receive First LNG Cargo Soon

LNG

Vietnam could soon import its first cargo of LNG. There is a tender for a cargo to be delivered to the new Thi Vai terminal around June-July according to ICIS sources. This follows soon after the first cargo was delivered to the nearby Philippines.

  • The Philippines received its first cargo of LNG from the Golar Glacier in April. The cargo was transferred onto the Ish floating storage unit, which is now positioned at Batangas Bay, the site of the new import project for the Philippines.
  • Thailand has also seen fast growing LNG demand in recent years, to replace declining domestic gas production and support power production.
  • Continued growth from such newer importers will depend in large part on price levels. If the winter is cold this year and European buyers start bidding higher again, such new projects could get off to a slower start.
