VIEW: ANZ Expects House Price To Rise Again In 2024

ANZ is predicting capital city house prices to fall 18% from their peak but that they will rise 5% in 2024. Senior economist Timbrell said that the principle driver will be lower borrowing capacity, as arrears and share of loans in negative equity are at low levels. Both of the latter are likely to rise as rates rise further and the economy slows but not to levels that would cause a collapse in the housing market. She said, "A sharp lift in forced sales is unlikely in our view, given very large savings buffers." (The Australian)
