Voters Remain Unconvinced By Biden's Economic Performance

US

A new survey from Ipsos has found that US voters still consider the economy, unemployment, and jobs as the primary issue facing the country, despite data suggesting the US economy has proved more resilient than comparable developed nations.

  • The survey shows that voter approval of President Biden’s handling of issues are split on deeply partisan lines. Only 3% of Republican voters approve of Biden’s handling of the economy.
  • The survey illustrates a messaging problem for the White House as postive economic data fails to resonate with voters.
  • NEC Director Lael Brainard said in remarks at the Economic Club of New York yesterday: "From the data alone, it would be hard to find clues that the U.S. economy was in the midst of a protracted global pandemic just two years ago and a war-driven shock to energy and food prices just one year ago."
  • Brainard: "Despite repeated forecasts that recession is just around the corner, the U.S. recovery is solid, and inflation is down."
