WAGES: Recruiter Reports Persistent Skill Shortages

AUSTRALIA

Employment agency Robert Half has said important skill shortages persist and the increased salaries needed to attract talent are going to weigh on company finances, according to The Australian. A survey of 300 recruitment managers found 70% are expecting this problem to negatively impact finances in 2023.

  • The survey showed 83% of employers have found competition for skilled employees has risen. They are calling for increased migration, upskilling and retraining.
  • Robert Half said that while vacancies are down they are still elevated and that vacancy rates remain high.
  • “The notion that the skills shortage would ease after the end of the pandemic has not proven to be the case, or at least not yet. Though some companies are reverting to hiring freezes or reducing their headcount, finding the right skilled talent remains essential at a time when companies are actioning their growth initiatives for the new year,” according to Robert Half.
