Weaker After Gov. Lowe’s Speech Starts

ACGBs are 2bp weaker after the release of RBA Governor Lowe’s speech to the National Press Club in Sydney currently underway. Significantly, Lowe stated that the April pause doesn’t imply rate hikes are over.

  • Pausing to assess the impact of previous tightening is consistent with previous cycles.
  • Governor Lowe also stated that services inflation was proving worryingly persistent and that rents were having a significant influence on the CPI.
  • Swaps are 1-2bp weaker after the release of the speech.
  • RBA-dated OIS pricing is mixed with pricing -3bp to +2bp across meetings.
