West Set To Call On Iran To 'Act Immediately' On IAEA Investigation

Kian Sharifi at the BBC on latest developments with the Iran nuclear deal:

  • "Iran's Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian has told his Omani counterpart that a planned statement by the US and E3 on Tehran's lack of cooperation with the IAEA "will not achieve anything". The US, France, Britain, and Germany have reportedly prepared a joint statement to "call upon Iran to act immediately" to cooperate with the Agency's investigation into the origin of uranium traces found in three old but undeclared sites. Iran insists that it has cooperated with the Agency and accuses it of yielding to Israeli pressure."
On Tuesday, the US told the IAEA Board of Governors that Iran was not a 'willing partner' , while US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated on Monday that “Iran seems either unwilling or unable to do what is necessary to reach an agreement. They continue to introduce extraneous issues to the negotiation that make an agreement less likely. What we’ve seen in the last week is a step backward away from the likelihood of near-term agreement.”
