WH: 'Congress Must Approve Covid-19 Relief Funds'

WHITE HOUSE

The White House Covid-19 Response Team has warned that the government urgently needs additional Covid-19 relief funds.

  • The team stresses that they 'have the tools to deal with new variants' but need funding to continue investment in antivirals, testing, and vaccinations.
  • This funding needs to be unlocked by Congress after Democrat governors blocked additional funding in the FY22 omnibus.
  • CDC's Doctor Rochelle Walensky: 'The BA2 variant now represents 35 percent of circulating Covid.'
  • Walensky says although there is no evidence that BA2 will increase hospitalisations but it is more transmissible.
  • White House Covid Response Coordinator Jeff Zients: 'Because of Congressional action we are at risk of not having the tools [to fight Covid] readily available.'
  • Zients: 'Congress has failed to act and we are already seeing the consequences.'
