EQUITIES: What a difference 24 hours makes, with the well documented risk
supportive factors from the U.S. session spilling over into Asia-Pac hours,
outweighing the worry surrounding the COVID-19 situation in China. Risk assets
then drew further support from a BBG sources piece outlining a $1tn
infrastructure plan from within the Trump administration, although the piece was
quick to note that the plan is only in the draft stage at present. Elsewhere,
the BoJ upped its corporate credit provisions, which wasn't a surprise, but
likely provided further support to the risk rally at the margin.
- South Korean equity indices enjoyed a particularly strong rally after
struggling yesterday, with KOSPI & KOSDAQ futures triggering their respective
sidecars, as the broader risk backdrop outweighed heightened political tensions
on the Korean peninsula.
- Chinese equities lagged, with some worry doing the rounds re: tighter mainland
liquidity.
- Nikkei 225 +4.1%, Hang Seng +2.9%, CSI 300 +0.9%, ASX 200 +3.8%.
- S&P 500 futures +46, DJIA futures +505, NASDAQ 100 futures +135.
