What to watch

OUTLOOK
  • The BOE will set out at 18:00BST /19:00CET its detailed plans for its active sales of gilts in Q4-22. It has already announced that the first operation will be on 1 November with only shorts and mediums to be sold this quarter. MNI expects bucket sizes of GBP580-750mln. For more on this see our analysis bullet from yesterday.
  • We have a number of speakers due today. From 8:00BST / 9:00CET the Riksbank's Ingves and Jansson will testify ahead of the Riksdag Committee on Finance regarding monpol.
  • At 9:30BST / 10:30CET BOE's Broadbent will give a speech entitled "The inflationary consequences of real shocks" at Imperial College. Broadbent is normally relatively guarded about his views on how he will vote in upcoming meetings, but his comments will be watched closely nonetheless.
  • Other speakers today include Norges Bank Governor Ida Wolden Bache, ECB's de Cos and Fed's Harker. After the European close we will also hear from Fed's Jefferson, Cook and Bowman (although none of those are due to speak on monpol).
  • On the data front we have already seen German PPI come in higher than expected and we have French confidence data and Eurozone current account data due this morning. In the afternoon we will see the Philly Fed, weekly claims and existing home sales data.
