Whitehall Gets Ready For No-Deal Brexit & COVID Second Wave (The Times)

UK

An emergency blueprint for responding to a no-deal Brexit coinciding with a sharp rise in coronavirus infections has been drawn up at Whitehall. The plans include deploying the army to the streets to help police manage public disorder and sending the navy to sea to prevent clashes between British and EU fishing boats, according to The Sun on Sunday. Last week the seventh round of UK-EU negotiations for a post-Brexit trade and security agreement ended in deadlock, increasing fears that Britain's transition period out of the bloc could end on December 31 without a deal. The Cabinet Office's EU transition task force is reported to have given ministers a PowerPoint presentation amid concerns over the level of preparations to tackle borders and customs complications linked to no Brexit deal.
