Whiting Outage May Take Until End-Feb

BP’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery will take at least until the end of February to restore normal operations after the power loss on 1 February, people familiar with operations told Bloomberg.

  • One person said that the restart is progressing at a very measured pace.
  • Increased activity began at the 102kbpd coker Tuesday afternoon but remained below operational levels. Increased activity continued as of Tuesday at the 115kbpd Pipestill 11-C crude unit and associated 60kbpd VDU since the afternoon of Feb. 10, but remained well below operational levels according WoodMac.
  • BP has not given a specific timeline on the restart. A spokesperson said on 8 February "BP is making progress on the work to restore the refinery to normal operations."
  • BP is buying refined products on the market to meet contractual obligations for wholesale fuel customers due to the continued outage according to Argus reports.
