Woodside Workers To Vote As Early As Thursday For Strike Action

LNG

Offshore workers at Woodside Energy-run gas platforms off Western Australia may vote as early as Thursday on industrial action after critical talks with the company appear to devolve into acrimony according to union sources.

  • The Offshore Alliance said Woodside was “well off the pace on key bargaining issues, including job security and remuneration,” sources said.
  • The next meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, allowing time for the two sides to consider the content covered in Tuesday’s talks according to the Financial Review.
  • About 150 Woodside workers already voted for potential in favor of industrial action.
  • Workers at Chevron’s Gorgon and Wheatstone downstream facilities must complete a separate vote on action by 24 August, while Australia’s Fair Work Commission on Monday authorized union officials to ballot members at the Wheatstone offshore platform. Votes need to be completed no later than 10 days after a ballot order is made.
  • Industrial action must start within 30 days of a completed ballot.
