WTI Net Longs Most Since July

Managed money net long positions in crude increased with Nymex WTI up to the highest since the end of July according to CFTC data released on Friday.

  • The increase comes with high uncertainty over supplies at the end of the year and into 2023 with the introduction of the EU ban on Russian seaborne crude on Dec5 and with the planned G7 price cap on Russian oil.
  • Nymex WTI net longs increased by +8k to 193k.
  • ICE Brent net longs increased by +6k to 162k.
  • ICE Gasoil fell by -20k to 47k.
  • Nymex gasoline increased by +2k to 52k.
