WTI Open Interest Falls But Brent Increases

Oil market liquidity remains low with Nymex WTI open interest falling further to the lowest since December 2011 although ICE Brent interest has recovered during October.

  • Nymex WTI aggregate open interest is now over 43% lower than peak positions from early 2021. Brent open interest has picked up from about 1.77m in mid September to 2.06m but is still well below a peak at 2.79m in early 2021.
