Xi Talks Up 'Strategic Collaboration' In Call w/Putin

(MNI) London - Following on from earlier bullt (see 1033GMT), China's state-run CCTV releasing more details on the call between Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. Report claims 'Xi told Putin: The two sides should collaborate strategically, defend the sovereignty, security and development intestests of their countries.' They should also 'Resolutely oppose interference in internal affairs by external forces.'

  • Xi: 'The two sides should cultivate new dynamics of cooperation, maintain stability of the industrial chain and supply chain'.
  • The comments regarding 'interference' likely refer to actions of the United States, but come as relations between China and the US sit at their most cordial in a number of years. On 7 Feb, Bloomberg reportsthat a US delegation in Beijing relayed to Chinese officials that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is looking to visit China in 2024. Yellen last visited China in July 2023.
