Xi To Meet Putin In Moscow As Early As Next Week-RTRS

CHINA-RUSSIA

MNI (London) - Reuters reporting that according to an unnamed source, Chinese President Xi Jinping could meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow as soon as next week. In recent weeks there has been significant speculation in the Western press and among its politicians that China could be looking to supply weaponry to Russia for us in its war against Ukraine.

  • The US and other Ukrainian allies have warned against this, hinting at 'severe consequences' for Beijing if it did so, but there is no signal yet of what this warning could amount to (sanctions or more severe action regarding troop deployments in the Indo-Pacific).
  • The potential visit comes as China has been offering to act as a peace broker in the war between Russia and Ukraine. These overtures have been dismissed by Ukraine's Western allies as unreliable, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has invited Chinese officials for talks.
