Yemen’s Houthis Claim to Have Hit US Warship During Jan. 24 Attack

Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthis said late Jan. 24 that they hit a US Navy ship as part of their attack on two Maersk cargo vessels, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

  • Maersk confirmed that two US-flagged vessels, the Maersk Detroit and the Maersk Chesapeake, were attacked in the Red Sea, Bloomberg reported and had turned around back through the Gulf of Aden.
  • Anadolu Agency said there had been no response from the US, but CENTCOM said that the Houthis had targeted a US ship with three missiles, none of which had hit its target. This would run counter to the Houthis’ claim.
