Zahid Says Cooperation With Pakatan Will Not Sideline UMNO Principles Amid Cabinet Entry Talk

Barisan Nasional;s cooperation with Prime Minister Anwar's Pakatan Harapan will not compromise the principles of the UMNO party, its chief Zahid said Tuesday amid reports that he might be eyeing a Cabinet post.

  • In a Facebook post, Zahid also lauded the formation of BN-PH unity governments in the states of Perak and Pahang as a sign of new political landscape.
  • Perak Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Saarani told the media that he would have no objections if Zahid was tapped to become Deputy Prime Minister.
  • Separately, a source told Free Malaysia Today that former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri are unlikely to enter Cabinet due to their attempts to lobby UMNO against working with Pakatan Harapan.
  • Zahid's admission to the Cabinet would indicate a further shift in the balance of power within UMNO and the Barisan Nasional alliance, in favour of the so called "court cluster."
