AFP: 'Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant disconnected from power grid: state energy operator'

  • RTRS- 'Fire damage to overhead power lines caused the remaining two operating reactors at the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southern Ukraine to shut down, Ukraine's state nuclear company said on Thursday.'
  • Anton Geraschenko, Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine: "Today, for the first time in history, Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely disconnected from electricity network, - Energoatom. Three power lines were damaged by Russians. Fourth one was disconnected due to fires. Specialists are working hard to reconnect the plant."
  • The plant provides a substantial amount of southern Ukraine's electricity, risking lengthy blackouts across the region currently being fought over by Russian and Ukrainian forces.
