Zelensky To Visit Poland Wednesday, NBP Week Begins

POLAND
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Warsaw this Wednesday, according to President Andrzej Duda's chief foreign policy aide Andrzej Przydacz. The official told RMF FM that the two sides agreed to disclose the date of Zelensky's trip, even as the previous foreign visits of the Ukrainian leader were usually unannounced. It will be Zelensky's first official visit to Poland since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion on his country, although the leader held several working meetings with Polish officials during stopovers en route to the U.S. or Western Europe. Poland will seek to discuss tightening controls on Ukrainian grain imports which have depressed local prices drawing the ire of Polish farmers.
  • Poland's manufacturing sector remained in contraction last month, according to the latest S&P Global PMI survey. Headline index eased to 48.3 from 48.5 recorded in February versus 48.1 expected. S&P Global said that "both output and new orders declined at faster rates," albeit costs were seen "rising at their slowest rate since mid-2020."
  • Otherwise, it is an NBP week. The central bank will announce its rate decision on Wednesday, with the usual press conference coming up Thursday. Official communications suggest that we should not expect any change in interest rates. On Friday, the central bank will publish the minutes of its previous monetary policy meeting.
