Senator Tim Scott (R-NC) has increased his profile as an underdog candidate to watch in the 2024 Republican presidential primary by scooping two key endorsements and testing the strength of the non-MAGA platform of former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
- The number two Republican in the Senate, John Thune (R-SD), today appeared alongside Scott at his campaign launch in at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina.
- The Hill reports, "While Scott’s seen as an affable, well-liked senator by Republicans and many Democrats, he’s likely to face an uphill battle for the 2024 GOP nomination.... Still, the Iowa caucuses, the first-in-the-nation nominating contest for Republicans, are months away, and Scott’s supporters say there’s plenty of time for the state of the race to change."
- Politico: "Scott’s campaign makes a four-fold case: (1) Scott is the best messenger in the race; (2) he’s the most consistently conservative in the still-forming field; (3) he has the resources and infrastructure to win; and (4) he’s broadly appealing across GOP factions, giving him a clear path to victory."
