25 June Election Briefing-Mitsotakis' ND On Course For Majority

GREECE

Greece holds its second general election in just over one month on 25 June. The previous vote on 21 May, held under a fully proportional representation electoral system, delivered a hung parliament. The largest party in parliament following the election was then-Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ centre-right New Democracy with 146 seats, just short of the 151-majority threshold. Governing coalitions with the centre-left PASOK-KINAL or the right-wing Greek Solution were mathematically possible, but Mitsotakis forewent coalition negotiations with the intention of bringing about a snap election.

  • Within this election briefing we provide our Scenario Analysis on post-election outcomes, with assigned probabilities, followed by information on how the election works, the main parties running, and a chartpack of opinion polls.
