AUD

AUD/USD has edged lower post the Westpac-Consumer Confidence release, which fell by an additional 3% to 81.2 in August. This is fresh cyclical lows for confidence, although the index dipped twice below 80.0 in 2020. The pair has seen some support emerge sub 0.6980. Earlier highs were close to 0.6995. AUD/USD was already a little on the backfoot prior to the release but overall moves are modest. AUD/JPY is off by around 0.20% versus the NY close, last at 94.10/15, versus early session highs around 94.40.
