A$ Range Trading As Markets Wait For Jackson Hole

Currencies are trading in a narrow range today as markets wait for the start of the Jackson Hole Symposium tomorrow. There are also no significant data releases. AUDUSD is slightly lower at 0.6742 after a high of 0.6752 followed by a low of 0.6739. The USD index is also flat.

  • AUDJPY is around 97.97, AUDNZD at 1.0964, AUDEUR at 0.6062 and AUDGBP at 0.5176.
  • The July Westpac lead index signalled soft growth into 2025 but it should show some improvement from H2 2024.
  • Equities have generally followed the US & Europe down with the ASX -0.4% and Hang Seng -0.7%. The S&P e-mini is up 0.1%. Oil continues to fall with WTI down 0.2% to $73.05/bbl. Copper is flat and iron ore is around $96-97/t.
  • Later the July FOMC meeting minutes are published and preliminary benchmark US payrolls revisions are released.
