MARKET TALK
MARKET TALK: A risk-off feel at the start of a new week, with continued focus on
record COVID-19 case counts in several U.S. states in recent days (with some
attributing this to the Memorial Day holiday gatherings and a lack of "herd
immunity" in several of the areas under scrutiny). Elsewhere, a fresh COVID-19
outbreak at Beijing's largest fruit and vegetable market (with a cluster of 50
or so cases identified) has put one of the city's districts on a "wartime"
alert.
- T-Notes bid, e-minis offered, with AUD underperforming in G10 FX, and broader
USD strength evident. GBP also under some light pressure on the back of reports
pointing to UK PM Johnson being set to maintain a relatively hard Brexit line in
a Monday video call with EU leaders. Johnson is reportedly set to push for rapid
progress in Brexit discussions, while reaffirming the ability to walk away from
the EU with no deal at the end of 2020, if required.
- North Korean sabre rattling with its southern neighbour also continued over
the weekend, with the sister of the state's leader upping the ante on that
front.
