ANC Leaves Putin Decision To Gov't, Prepares For Elective Conference In Western Cape

  • ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said that the ruling party will leave the decision whether or not to host Russian President Vladimir Putin at the upcoming BRICS summit to the government. The party's position on the matter is merely "that BRICS must succeed."
  • The ANC's Western Cape branch holds its first elective conference today after an eight-year hiatus during which the provincial chapter of the ruling party was headed by a series of interim leaders. The front-runner to become the next provincial Secretary is former Haws head Anwa Dramat, who competes with Cameron Dugmore, Lerumo Kalako and Richard Dyantyi. Documents released ahead of the conference suggest that discussions will focus on party renewal and the 2024 national elections.
  • South Africa will auction ZAR1bn of index-linked bonds maturing in 2031, 2046 and 2051 today. Data earlier this week showed that headline CPI inflation eased to a 13-month low of +6.3% Y/Y.
