Anthony Albanese Edges Out In First Leaders’ Debate

AUSTRALIA

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labour leader Anthony Albanese locked horns in their first direct debate Wednesday night, with a plurality of the 100 undecided voters in the audience declaring Albanese the winner.

  • Out of the 100 voters in the audience, 40 picked Albanese, 35 chose Morrison and 25 remained undecided. There seems to be a broad conviction that it was a win on points rather than a knockout.
  • The debate covered a wide range of issues, notably nursing shortages, political corruption, the NDIS, housing affordability, and flood-proofing, with leaders having a fierce exchange over China policies.
