NEW ZEALAND: ANZ note that the August ANZ Business Outlook Survey saw headline
business confidence fall 8 points, with a net 52% of respondents reporting that
they expect general business conditions to deteriorate in the year ahead, the
lowest since April 2008. Firms' expectations for their own activity over the
year ahead fell 6 points to -1, the lowest read since April 2009.
- Employment, investment and export intentions all fell to dismal levels, along
with profit expectations.
- Inflation indicators were weaker despite higher reported costs.
