Argentina May Have First LNG Facility in 4 Years Pending Reforms


Argentina could have its first LNG project ready in four years if economic and energy reforms proposed by President Milei are passed, Tecpetrol CEO said March 19, cited by Reuters.

  • However, the proposed reforms were rejected by Argentina’s senate last week.
  • At least two large projects in Argentina are under discussion, one with Petronas and another with Tecpetrol.
  • Tecpetrol CEO Ricardo Markous said that some shale gas plays in Argentina are faster and cheaper to produce than some US regions, but further reductions in production costs are needed.
  • Oil output could reach 1.5m b/d in the coming years from around 0.7m b/d last year, he said.
