Asia Spot LNG Prices Under Pressure from Robust Supply

LNG

LNG Prices in North Asia are not following the usual price trend going into winter, according to Reuters.

  • Typically, prices rally into the winter, before falling as the summer months approach.
  • However, ample supply in the region is putting pressure on prices, while a moderate uptick in demand has been insufficient to drive up prices.
  • JKM spot prices averaged $16.50/MMBtu in the week to Nov. 19, compared to $17/MMBtu in the previous seven days. Prices have fallen for three successive weeks.
  • November imports of LNG into Asia are forecast at 22.67m mt, up from 21.18m mt in October, and 21.41m mt in Nov. 2022, Kpler data showed.
  • More US volumes are also headed to Asia, with November imports from the US expected to be 1.97m metric tons, compared to October’s 1.83m mt.
