Atlanta Fed Q2 GDPNow Rises To 2.45% From 2.02% On Strong Retail Sales

US DATA

The Atlanta Fed's GDPNow estimate of Q2 GDP growth jumped to 2.45% from 2.02% in its prior estimate, owing largely to the surprisingly strong June retail sales report out this morning (and upward revisions to prior retail sales growth).

  • This pushed up the Q2 real personal consumption expenditure (PCE) growth estimate to 2.1% from 1.6% prior.
  • That's the strongest Q2 GDPNow forecast since June 27, having troughed at 1.55% on July 3 after soft ISM Services, trade, and durable goods releases (at which point PCE growth was estimated at 1.1%).
  • The next GDPNow release will be tomorrow after housing and industrial production data.
