AUSSIE: AUD/USD trades flat at $0.6759. The Australian docket is virtually empty
today, but RBA governor Lowe will appear at the Jackson Hole symposium in U.S.
hours on Saturday.
- The heavy tone was evident in Thursday's Asia-Pac session amid a broader
deterioration in risk sentiment, with traders speaking to BBG pointing to
AUD/JPY sales when S&P500 futures moved into the red. Preliminary readings of
CBA PMIs for Australia were rather disappointing, but no immediate reaction was
noted. AUD/USD extended losses pre-WMR fix, as Fed's Harker struck a slightly
hawkish note. It finished off lows, albeit still 24 pips worse off.
- The Aug 14 low of $0.6736 provides the initial bearish target, located ahead
of the psychological support at $0.6700. Meanwhile, bulls set their sights on
$0.6773/75, the 23.6% fibo retracement of the Jul-Aug fall/100-HMA & 200-HMA.
Jump above would bring the 21-DMA at $0.6794 into view.
