Badenoch Out Of Conservative Leadership Race, Sunak, Mordaunt, Truss Through

Former equalities minister Kemi Badenoch has been eliminated from the Conservative party leadership contest, coming last in today's ballot of the party's MPs. Full list of results:

  • Rishi Sunak: 118 (+3)
  • Penny Mordaunt: 92 (+10)
  • Liz Truss: 86 (+15)
  • Kemi Badenoch: 59 (+1)
The elimination of Badenoch from the contest comes as little surprise. Sunak still short of the 118 votes required to guarantee his entry in the run off. Big gains for Mordaunt and Truss.
  • Polling from YouGov shows former Chancellor Rishi Sunak as the least favoured candidate among party members, losing in all potential run-offs at present. Liz Truss would beat Mordaunt and Sunak according to the poll. Mordaunt would beat Sunak, but lose to Truss.
