BAX Yields Trend Higher Post BOC

  • BAX yields are off the levels touched in the snap reaction to a hawkish BoC but have trended higher through the session, led by the Dec’22/Mar’23 contracts up ~10bps since the decision for a 19bp increase on the day.
  • It leaves the BAX curve almost as steep as it’s been this cycle although the terminal rate remains off previous highs despite the surge, leaving a crudely implied overnight rate between 3.0-3.25%.
  • Attention now turns to BoC Dep Gov Beaudry presenting the Economic Progress Report tomorrow, with areas of attention including fleshing out the willingness to act ‘more’ forcefully, not necessarily new for BoC commentary but included in the statement for the first time.
