Belarus Gasoline Imports Indicate Russian Tightness

Russia is pulling gasoline volumes from Belarus in March as it faces domestic shortages against a hampered refining backdrop according to Reuters sources.

  • Russia already put a gasoline export ban in place from March 1 to try and protect supplies but has been hit by Ukrainian drone attacks and scheduled maintenance.
  • In the first half of March, gasoline imports from Belarus reached ~3,000 metric tons according to the sources. It compares to 590 tons in Feb and none in Jan.
  • It is unclear how much Belarus can increase production and industry sources have said there are technical bottlenecks. It has two refineries capable of running at around 240,000 bpd.
  • They mostly refine Russian oil.
