Biden Administration Believes Invasion Most Likely Outcome In Ukraine

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan has said that the chances of a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis are 'diminishing hour by hour'.

  • Sullivan also said that Secretary of State Antony Blinken outlined what is currently underway in Eastern Ukraine at the UN Security Council last week. Blinken said that a manufactured crisis would provide the pretext for a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  • Today has seen an uptick in negative sentiment about a diplomatic solution to the crisis with many top figures within the Biden administration now believing that an invasion is the most likely outcome. A Biden-Putin summit scheduled for next week will take place after a Blinken Lavrov meeting if no invasion has taken place.
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the Munich Security Conference yesterday that Putin has 'made up his mind' on an invasion.
  • A call between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Putin will take place shortly and may clarify Russian intentions and Scholz has so far signaled a willingness to engage with Putin's security demands to a greater extent that the US.
