President Biden and former President Donald Trump will deliver duelling speeches on immigration at the US-Mexico border today as they both attempt to influence the narrative on border security.

  • Trump’s speech at Eagle Pass, Texas is scheduled to begin at 14:00 ET 19:00 GMT.LIVESTREAM
  • Biden’s speech at Brownsville, Texas is scheduled for 16:30 ET 21:30 GMT after a series of briefings with border security officials. The trip will be the second time Biden has visited the border during his presidency. LIVESTREAM
  • The speeches come in the wake of a widely reported survey from Gallupwhich saw immigration surge into first place as the most important problem facing the country for the first time since 2019.
  • Biden will argue that Trump used his influence over House Republicans to torpedo a bipartisan border security deal which would have resolved some of the problems at the border. Polling suggests that voters haven’t yet been receptive to this argument, but Biden pledged after the collapse of the deal: "Every day between now and November, the American people are going to know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends."
  • Politico reports that Trump, “has made border security and harsh restrictionist immigration policies a centerpiece of his campaign. Republicans have hammered Biden for the chaos at the border and the migrant crisis afflicting many big cities, even after congressional Republicans blocked a bipartisan compromise.”
