Biden Puts Abortion Back In Political Spotlight

President Biden is shortly due to convene, "a meeting of his Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access to mark the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision." The meeting comes as Democrat strategist looks to bring the political spotlight back onto abortion ahead of the general election in November. LIVESTREAM

  • Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer told CBS yesterday, when asked if Biden should be talking about abortion more: “I think it would be good if he did. I know that one tenet of his belief system is that women and only women, with their families, and healthcare professionals are the ones who know what decision is right for them.”
  • Politico notes: "Top Biden campaign officials have flagged abortion rights as a top issue for the president, but Biden himself has been more restrained in talking about the issue than other Democrats."
  • Abortion was the major issue of the 2022 midterm elections, and one that helped Democrats overperform, but a Politico analysis finds that, "when abortion rights are on the ballot, they win with voters across the political spectrum — though they don’t always boost Democratic candidates on ballots advocating for them."
