Biden Speech On 'Lowering Costs' Underway Shortly

US

US President Joe Biden is shortly due to deliver a speech in Las Vegas, Nevada on lowering the cost of housing. LIVESTREAM

  • According to the White House, "Biden will discuss the investments the Biden-Harris Administration has already made through the American Rescue Plan (ARP). The ARP provided $1 billion in Nevada to help boost affordable housing, lower housing costs, and keep homeowners and renters in their homes. This includes $700 million invested in affordable housing supply that includes major investments in senior housing."
  • Biden will also tout other major infrastructure investments in the state as part of a broader tour of swing states designed to remind voters of the major legislative wins of Biden's first term - including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS Act, and Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Nevada - along with Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia - is considered one of the six states most crucial to the presidential election in November. Biden won all six in 2020. Trump won five of the six in 2016, dropping only Nevada to Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton.
  • Biden's remarks - the first since a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday - will also be watched closely for any signal of a shift in policy towards Israel. Biden has tended to address major foreign policy issues in ad hoc remarks on the campaign trail.
