Blinken And Truss Deliver Joint Presser At State Department

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss have delivered a joint presser at the US State Department.


  • Blinken says that the US and UK working on a multiplicity of issues, not just Ukraine: 'We are in almost constant contact while we calibrate a response.'
  • Blinken: 'I have never seen such unity in the transatlantic relationship.'
  • Blinken commends UK PM Johnson's announcement of an additional £175 million to Ukraine and that the UK was on of the first countries to send lethal aid to Ukraine.
  • Blinken went on: 'Yesterday, President Biden banned all imports of Russian oil and PM Johnson committed to ending imports by the end of 2022.'
  • Blinken: 'Together we work on returning Iran to nuclear compliance under the JCPOA.'
  • Truss: 'Putin must fail.'
  • 'We must double down on sanctions. This includes a full SWIFT ban and G7 ending use of Russian gas.'
  • Truss: 'We must continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.'
  • Response to question on MIG-29s: Blinken: 'As we've said, the decision to transfer any equipment will be decided by individual governments'. 'Poland's decision shows some complexities.' 'Flying jets into contested air over Ukraine represents a serious security threat for the whole NATO alliance.'
