Blinken Says He Believes A Ceasefire Agreement In Doha Is Possible

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, says the US continues to push for a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Doha, Qatar, noting that "there's still difficult work to get there," but he believes it's "possible."

  • Blinken says he had very productive meetings with Shoukry and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today and there's "consensus" among Arab allies and the US, "on the need for an immediate and sustained ceasefire."
  • On the hostage deal, Blinken says "teams are working every single day" and there still "real challenges."
  • Blinken says the US has seen, "some initial steps of reform for the Palestinian Authority," but "more is needed." He adds that "if the Palestinian Authority pursues reform, the region will support it."
  • Blinken says that a deal to normalise relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia deal is "getting close to a point of agreement."
